Associate Professor in Political Science

A position as an Associate Professor within the field of international politics is available in the Department of Political Science.

A few years ago the department hosted the Norwegian Power and Democracy Study, and today we coordinate the interfacultary research programme on “Democracy as Idea and Practice”. The department also participates in the interdisciplinary research programme on Strategic Challenges in International Climate and Energy Policy (CICEP). Teaching activities at the Department of Political Science are organised in five sections: Public Policy and Administration, Comparative Politics, Political Theory, International Politics and Research Methods.

Applications for a permanent position as Associate Professor in political science within the field of international politics are now being accepted.

Applicants must be able to document academic expertise in this field.

The person appointed must be able to undertake teaching duties at all levels (bachelor, master and PhD) and take part in the teaching of research methods. Applicants are required to document teaching experience and research dissemination.

The person appointed will be expected to perform administrative duties that the position entails.

 

Applications must contain details of all education, previous positions, teaching experience, academic, professional and pedagogical activity, as well as administrative experience.

The application must include:

  • Letter of application
  • CV
  • Certificates
  • List of academic works with specification of where they are published
  • Account of the academic works that the applicant would like special emphasis to be given in the evaluation of his/her application
  • Account of pedagogical competence, teaching experience, research dissemination, other dissemination activities and other qualifications.
  • Up to 10 academic works for which special emphasis will be given in the evaluation of his/her academic qualifications. When evaluating academic qualifications, primary emphasis will be on research work in the past five years.

Applicants’ academic qualifications, other professional and pedagogical qualifications, dissemination activities, qualifications in leadership and administration, and personal qualifications will form the basis of assessment. When ranking competent applicants, the entire range of qualifications will be taken into account and explicitly considered. Academic qualifications will be given priority over other professional and related qualifications.

The person who is appointed must have basic pedagogical competence. Applicants that cannot document such competence at the time of their employment must  achieve this within the first two years of appointment.

The selection process will include an interview, and a trial lecture may also be required.

Teaching is carried out in both Norwegian and English. In the event that the person appointed is not a native Norwegian speaker, he/she will be expected to be able to teach in Norwegian within three years of employment.
